The fiberglass duct rod is manufactured from a composite material consisting of a continuous fiberglass bundle and a high-strength plastic sheath. Due to this composite structure, the duct rod offers high tensile strength, breaking strength and bending resistance, which may vary depending on the diameter of the fiberglass rod. The plastic sheath is designed for high mechanical loads and protects the fiberglass core, including the copper strand, against wear and corrosion.

Depending on the version, copper strands may be integrated into the fiberglass bundle. These copper strands are continuous and electrically connected to the frame of the reel. The integrated copper strand can be energized using standard cable and line locating equipment. This allows the inserted locating rod to be detected positionally and its depth to be determined. An integrated copper strand does not increase the tensile, breaking or bending strength of the fiberglass duct rod.
