How to choose

  • Diameter vs. winch: Follow the maker’s rope range (e.g. 10–13 mm) for optimal capstan traction.
  • Strength & safety factor: Determine WLL with adequate reserve (e.g. MBS/SF) and avoid shock loading.
  • Material: Prefer polyester; high-modulus HMPE may slip on capstans and is more heat-sensitive.
  • Practice: Use sufficient wraps, keep alignment straight and prevent surging.

Safety & care

Inspect ropes for abrasion, check terminations and replace at first signs of damage. Run a brief test pull before the job.
