PWG II - pulse wave generator
The PWG II pulse wave generator from F.A.S.T assists the user in locating buried water pipelines within water supply systems. Depending on surface characteristics, the surrounding bedding material, pipe material, system pressure and pipe diameters, locating ranges of up to 600m can be achieved.
A minimum pressure of 2 bar in the water network is required.
PRINCIPLE and INSTALLATION: The PWG II pulse wave generator is connected to the water column via a house connection or hydrant. The impact piston (see illustration) generates a pressure pulse (pressure increase) within the pipe system. This pulse is transmitted through the pipe wall into the surrounding bedding material. Using a suitable geophone, the resulting acoustic signal can be detected at the surface and traced along the pipeline. We recommend AQUA-M series geophones from F.A.S.T for this purpose.
