Tracer gas leak locating

Leak locating with tracer gas is one of the most sensitive methods of pipe burst detection. A tracer gas such as forming gas, for example nitrogen with 5 % hydrogen, is introduced into the line under test. At the point of damage the gas escapes, rises to the surface and can be detected there with a gas detector, even with leaks that cannot be seen and without unnecessary excavation.

Tracer gas leak locating involves leak detectors with a hydrogen sensor, gas diffusers for introducing the tracer gas, and probes and sensors. The method is used on service connections, supply lines and mains, also where acoustic methods reach their limits.
