Geolantis.360 – GIS mapping for the RD8200SG

Geolantis.360 is a cloud solution from Geolantis, a division of PelicanCorp. It is offered as a subscription per user and month in several tiers (Pro, Business, Enterprise), which differ among other things in the number of users, data volume and range of functions; individual modules are available as add-ons. The user account is assigned to a server (domain), which is provided together with the login credentials.

The minimum requirements are:

• Android 4.2 or later with at least 4 GB RAM, tablet of 8 inches or more or smartphone of 5 inches or more, Wi-Fi or mobile network 3G or higher
• iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iOS 14.0 or later, and Apple Vision with visionOS 1.0 or later

On iOS, support is limited by Apple's restrictions; manufacturers have to certify their GNSS devices under Apple's MFi programme. Among the locators, the RD8200 is compatible with Android; the RD8200SG can be paired via BLE on Android and iOS. Templates, projects and evaluations are managed in the cloud-based web portal.

Yes, with one limitation. The mobile clients work offline: a local spatial database on the device keeps the functions available without internet, base maps can be taken along offline, and captured data is synchronised automatically as soon as a connection is available again.

For centimetre-level accuracy with RTK corrections via NTRIP, however, a continuous internet connection is required. The app shows the highest accuracy status as RTK Fixed.

Captured data is reviewed and filtered in the web-based management tool and exported to GIS, CAD and Google Earth; PDF reports are also created there. Geolantis passes live data to QGIS and other applications via a WFS service, and GIS, CAD or ERP systems can be connected via an open interface (API).

In the other direction, existing data sets, PDF documents, georeferenced aerial imagery and WMS and WFS services can be integrated. Point lists are imported as an ASCII file (CSV or TXT) with a header row, selecting the matching EPSG code.

The RD8200SG is paired directly in the app via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and this is done twice: in the GPS selection and in the locator selection, each time with the RD8200SG entry. On Android, pairing is done via the settings, the option “NMEA Bluetooth device” and “Device Connections”, on iOS via “Enhanced BT/BLE Connections”; the pole height must be set correctly.

A green Bluetooth icon confirms the connection. The NTRIP connection is then started, a feature class is selected, and each measurement is sent to the app with the Survey Measurement key on the RD8200SG.

The RD8200SG is ready for BLE pairing from firmware 6.1.7 onwards. This is how to check and set it on the device:

• INFO menu: revision (Rev) at least 007, version (Ver) at least 6001; in addition, the PHONE menu must be present.
• PHONE menu: select BLE on Android; on iOS, BLE is the only option and is already selected.
• SMLOG menu: protocol (PROT) set to ASCII 2, communication port (COM) set to ON.
• In addition: SMLOG → PROT → ASCII → GPS+ set to YES and GPS → RTK set to ON.

Older devices should be updated to the latest firmware following Radiodetection's instructions.
