How are ITALIFTERS magnetic lifters protected during transport and storage?ITALIFTERS
- Anti-magnetic protective sack A221006: for CL9, CL10, CL11, XT10, XT11 as well as CL10 ATEX and CL11 ATEX. It prevents the magnetic plate from accidentally sticking to metal objects and protects the lifter during transport and storage.
- XT2: it comes with two hard plastic anti-magnetic protection cups that keep objects from sticking to the magnets.
- Shoulder pouch A221013 made of Cordura with shoulder strap: for the XT1 NANO (also for the XT1 NANO ERGO and XT1 NANO ATEX).
The handles of models such as CL9, CL10 and CL11 fold or telescope, so the lifters take up little space in the vehicle.

Which ITALIFTERS lifters and accessories fit the APS80 and APS90 wheeled levers?ITALIFTERS
Both wheeled levers are rated for a lifting weight of 600 kg; the cover is lifted by pushing the lever down. The following combinations are intended:
- Magnetic lifters CL10 or CL11 (APS80 and APS90), XT4 NANO via the pin in its handle (APS80 and APS90), XT10 and XT11 (APS90)
- Two CL10 in parallel joined by the connection bridge (Ponticello) for heavy covers or minimal magnetic contact (APS80 and APS90)
- Permanent magnets PM400 or PM500 for very heavy covers (APS80 and APS90)
- Set of mechanical hooks (four wing clamps, one hook clamp) and the BT95 crossbar with a slot spacing of 400 to 920 mm for mechanical opening (APS80 and APS90)
The APS80 is a lighter, simplified version of the APS90.

Which device is right for my application?
How can covers without a magnetic contact surface be opened with ITALIFTERS tools?ITALIFTERS
For covers the magnet cannot grip – for example asphalted or non-metallic covers or covers with latches – mechanical lever functions are available:
- XT1 NANO and XT1 NANO ERGO: the upper handle serves as a hook that engages the slots of the cover.
- XT5: hook lever at the end of the handle for mechanical lifting.
- LB5: the T-handle is used as a lever or lifting hook.
- Cover lifter levers LB2, LB4 and LB8 engage the slots of the cover, the LB7 inserts its flat beaks into the gap between cover and frame; with the LB2 the hook is inserted and turned through 90°, and large covers can be opened with two LB2.
- Set of mechanical hooks with the APS80 or APS90 wheeled levers where a magnetic lifter cannot be used.
For round covers with a cast iron filling frame or with an asphalt, stone or concrete surface and a central metal disc, the CL11 with its curved magnetic base is suitable.
Which ITALIFTERS tools release stuck manhole covers?ITALIFTERS
For covers blocked by rust, encrustation, ice or long periods of inactivity, the following aids are suitable:
- ES1 (screw extractor): a suitable ITALIFTERS clamp is hooked into the cover slot; turning the screw clockwise creates a strong upward force that breaks the encrustation and raises the cover by the first few millimetres. It replaces hammering.
- MZ120 (sliding hammer): the hardened conical tip is driven between frame and cover and splits deposits; the work is done standing. It also cuts asphalt layers, releases latches and serves as a lever.
- T3 POLYTOOL: three ends for cleaning and scraping the slots, releasing the turn lock and as an insertion key.
- XT4 NANO: central pin in the handle for releasing cast iron covers.
Which ITALIFTERS cover lifters are intended for potentially explosive (ATEX) areas?ITALIFTERS
These are the ATEX versions XT1 NANO ATEX (K0324), CL10 ATEX (K0325) and CL11 ATEX (K0326). They are ATEX category 3 tools for places classified as zone 2, with the marking II3G c IIB T6 -20°C<Tamb<+50°C and a spark-proof metal base.
- XT1 NANO ATEX: 210 kg lifting capacity (ideal conditions), magnets separated and protected by an anti-spark sheet
- CL10 ATEX: 380 kg, rectangular base
- CL11 ATEX: 400 kg, for round, square and hinged covers, with extendable front lever
Applications include gas networks, fuel stations, petrochemical plants, refineries and port oil terminals.
What should be observed with the ITALIFTERS PM400/PM500/PM1000 permanent magnets?ITALIFTERS
- Rated lifting capacity: 400 kg (PM400), 500 kg (PM500) and 1000 kg (PM1000). This is one third of the value determined in the pull test (1200, 1500 and 3000 kg), i.e. a safety factor of 3.
- Operation: the magnetic force is switched with an ON/OFF lever; a safety button prevents unintended deactivation.
- Limits of use: only for lifting manhole covers; the lifting height must never exceed 30 cm above the road surface.
- Combinations: PM400 and PM500 with the APS80/APS90 wheeled levers, two magnets with the LK70 lever trolley; PM500 and PM1000 also with mini excavators and cranes.
- Weight: 9 kg, 18 kg and 40 kg respectively.
What lifting capacity do the ITALIFTERS magnetic cover lifters have?ITALIFTERS
The lifting capacity applies to ideal conditions, measured on an 18 mm thick C36 iron plate. On real covers the holding force depends on the thickness and material of the cover.
| Model | Lifting capacity (ideal conditions) | Number of magnets |
|---|---|---|
| LB5 | 70 kg | 5 |
| XT1 NANO ATEX | 210 kg | 7 |
| XT1 NANO, XT1 NANO ERGO | 230 kg | 7 |
| CL9 | 230 kg | 9 |
| XT4 NANO, XT5 | 300 kg | 9 |
| CL10 ATEX | 380 kg | 16 |
| CL10, CL11 ATEX | 400 kg | 16 |
| CL11 | 420 kg | 18 |
| XT2, XT3 COMPASS | 460 kg | 14 |
| XT10, XT11 | 650 kg | 27 |
The PM400, PM500 and PM1000 permanent magnets are intended for very heavy or worn covers.
How can an open manhole be secured with ITALIFTERS accessories?ITALIFTERS
- AC90: a folding stainless steel cross with four sliding struts is placed over the round or square opening, with a self-centring folding metal grille on top. It is designed to stop people, tools and materials from falling into the open manhole, lets air and light through and can be moved aside for a ladder; from below it can be lifted off with a light push. Grille 90 × 90 cm, maximum permitted load 100 kg.
- SAFEGATE: folding HDPE barrier with four elements (75 × 100 cm each) that can be set up as a square around the opening or in a line up to 300 cm.
- FLEXXY: extendable orange plastic barrier with reflective bands, 230 cm long when extended, can be filled with water or sand, with a holder for warning signs or lamps.
The AC90 is a supplement to the prescribed barriers and road works warning signs.
